Moxibustion therapy is used along side acupuncture to stimulate qi flow at points on the body that are selected for their specific function to treat the ailment concerned. There are two forms of moxibustion – direct (on skin) and indirect (close, but not on the skin).
Mugwort, usually called by it's Asian name, Moxa is burned near and around specific acupuncture points to stimulate their therapeutic effect. Moxa has a warming nature that helps to expel cold and damp from the body and warms the body’s channels. The bitter and acrid qualities of Moxa help to break stagnation, clear phlegm, and rectify the qi and blood.
